Health and Fitness Tip #133 - 6 Teas That Reduce Inflammation In the Body

6 Teas That Reduce Inflammation In The Body

Inflammation: it’s on everyone’s lips these days — and for good reason. But we’re not talking about acute inflammation, necessary for healing your wounds. We’re talking about a more sinister kind, called chronic inflammation. It plays a key role in many chronic diseases, contributing to heart disease, arthritis, cancer and more. Luckily, there is a way to reduce chronic inflammation and help promote overall wellness. Just sit back, put your feet up and have a cup of tea.

How does inflammation occur in the body?

Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to inflammation. On the one hand, inflammation is necessary and vital for the body’s immune response. In it’s simplest form, inflammation is the body’s attempt to heal itself after an injury. It’s the body’s way of defending itself against foreign invaders like viruses and bacteria. It’s also necessary for repairing damaged tissue. Without acute inflammation, your wounds would fester and your infections could turn deadly.

But too much of a good thing can soon become problematic. When inflammation becomes chronic, also known as low-grade or systemic inflammation, it can have long-lasting effects on the body.

What are the inflammatory diseases?

Unlike the redness or swelling that occurs when your body fights a low-grade infection, chronic inflammation can lead to serious conditions such as:

Heart disease
Cancer
Alzheimer’s
Asthma
Peptic ulcer
Tuberculosis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Periodontitis
Ulcerative colitis
Crohn’s disease
Chronic sinusitis
Active hepatitis
And more!

What is the main cause of chronic inflammation in the body?

Various factors like stress, environmental toxins and how much exercise you get can affect your body’s response to inflammation. But, according to research by the Foundation for Integrated Medicine in New York, diet also plays a key role in how your body handles inflammation. That means that certain foods can either create or fight chronic inflammation.

Teas that fight inflammation

Rather than relying on medication to manage chronic inflammation, try some of these all-natural remedies instead. Here are six teas that can help kick inflammation to the curb:

1. Green tea
The polyphenols in green tea fend off chronic inflammation.
Green, black and white teas are loaded with polyphenols, plant-derived compounds that boost the immune system and may even protect against certain inflammation-causing diseases. But, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, green tea contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols, since it’s made from unfermented leaves. When it comes to fighting inflammation, green tea may help fight inflammatory conditions like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease and certain cancers.

2. Ginger tea

Try ginger to reduce chronic inflammation and soothe the gut at the same time. Ginger is widely known for its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, and its ability to alleviate symptoms of gastrointestinal distress by relaxing and soothing the intestinal tract. According to research in the National Center for Biotechnology, ginger exhibits analgesic and potent anti-inflammatory effects that decrease inflammation, swelling and pain associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatism. Research published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine also suggests that ginger has anticancer activities because of its ability to curb the life or death of a cell.

3. Turmeric tea
The curcumin in turmeric fights chronic inflammation. Curcumin, the main active compound that gives turmeric its golden color, is responsible for most of its anti-inflammatory benefits. Turmeric contains more than two dozen anti-inflammatory compounds, including six different pain, swelling and inflammation inhibitors, according to Dr. Weil. An excellent way to reap turmeric’s anti-inflammatory benefits is by drinking it in a tea.

 4. Tart cherry tea
Tart cherries work to reduce chronic inflammation by subduing inflammatory pathways. Turns out, tart cherries top the list of anti-inflammatory foods. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition looked at 10 healthy women ages 22 to 40. After fasting overnight, the women ate two servings of cherries. Blood and urine samples were taken before and after the cherries were eaten. Researchers found that cherries decreased inflammation and subdued inflammatory pathways. In fact, tart cherry compounds have comparable anti-inflammatory activity to ibuprofen and naproxen — but without the significant side effects!

 5. Pineapple tea

The bromelain in pineapple reduces chronic inflammation. Research from the University of Southampton in the UK looked at the analgesic effects of bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple used to reduce swelling and inflammation. The studies concluded that this enzyme was comparable to or even more effective than NSAID painkiller drugs for managing the pain of osteoarthritis. Other studies have also found that bromelain could be even more effective than prescription anti-inflammatory drugs for various types of pain.

6. Dandelion tea
Dandelion tea can detox the body and fight chronic inflammation. Dandelions are more than just a weed. They can detoxify your body, relieve constipation, soothe an upset stomach, help reduce water weight and help fight inflammation. Dandelion tea is made from the roots or leaves of the plant and has been used in ancient Native American and Chinese medicine for thousands of years.

Dandelion can produce laxative effects, so sip your tea at home if you haven’t had it before. In addition to easing inflammation and digestive problems, dandelions help detox the body. So, you may find that your skin becomes brighter and clearer.

Stop chronic inflammation in its tracks
Inflammation is at the root of most chronic conditions. Thankfully, in most cases, it can be treated with a little diet and lifestyle adjustment. In order to combat chronic inflammation for good, feel free to indulge in an anti-inflammatory tea as a preventative, or when you’re feeling a little achy. Enjoy!

Motivational Wednesday

If you want to succeed, you need to believe that you can.

You must bet on yourself if you want to see your dreams come true!!
.
Do you want to succeed? Do you believe in yourself? Are you willing to bet on yourself?
.
To be successful in anything that you do in life, you need to believe! You need to have faith in yourself!
.
You can't rely on anyone else except you to make all your dreams come true!
It's hard to believe in yourself. It's hard to act confident when you don't believe. And it's hard to bet on yourself when you don't think it's possible!
.
Shut your negative thoughts in a box, lock them up, and throw away the key!
.
You can do it!! Believe in yourself!
.
Each day tell yourself you can, you are worth it!
.
Speak positive affirmations to yourself everyday and see what happens! Put your beliefs and thoughts about yourself out there and see what happens!
.
I believe in you and I believe that you WILL succeed and that ALL your dreams will come TRUE!
.
Do you?

Transformation Tuesday

#TransformationTuesday

Fit Girl turned Lip Girl!
.
WHY NOT?!?! Thats what I kept asking myself....
.
Why not try something new?
.
Why not give it a try?
.
Why not step outside your comfort zone?
.
Why not see where this exciting opportunity takes you?
.
I mean let's be honest, I am NOT into lipstick or make-up, OR WASN'T until a few months ago.
.
I grew up a sports kid. I didn't care about makeup. And the older I got the less interested I was. I stuck to what I knew and what looked good on me.
.
And LIPSTICK...
.
Gross! I hated the taste, the way it came off on your food and drinks, and how it didn't stay on longer than like an hour, and that was if I didn't eat or drink any thing!
.
However, all that has changed!
.
I wish I would have know about this #Lipstick 3 years ago when I was #teaching and about to get #married!
.
Why?
.
Because this stuff lasts! All day! No eating it. No coming off on glasses. No fading or wiping off! It stays on all day!
.
It's legit a #OneAndDone and #ForgetAboutIt!
.
Now I am having fun, trying NEW COLORS, NEW SHADES, and helping others have fun and fall in love with lipstick and make-up for the first time!
.
I mean a good lipstick is like a good pair of shoes! It makes you feel #sexy, #confident, #InCharge, and #beautiful!

God Sized Dreams, Do you have them?

God Sized Dreams!

Do you have them? Did you know we were all born with them?
.
I didn't know I was. I thought I was just meant to be a teacher for the rest of my life. I mean I taught for 8 years before I quit.
.
Crazy, right?
.
I mean I gave up my pension. I gave up my retirement. I gave up my security. I gave up my benefits. All for what? For a new passion?!? To become my own CEO?!?! To BUILD an online business?!?
.
Yep! I didn't realize it at the time,  BUT, I was following my God Sized Dream!
.
So why I did I do it? Why did I give up all the security?!?!
.
Because I was being pulled to follow my dream. I prayed hard on what to do, I mean I thought teaching was it. But..
.
I lost my passion and drive for teaching. For 2 straight years I went to bed crying and woke up crying everyday. I was no longer happy and I lost the passion and drive I had for teaching! I knew I couldn't live the rest of my life the way I was living. I was miserable and it reflected in my relationships with my then fiancé, family, and friends.
.
So I followed my Dream. My dream of being my OWN boss. My Dream of growing a team. My Dream of Owning my Own business.
.
And now, 4 years later, my Dream is continuing to lead me, to allow me to follow my passion, and most of all to continue to HELP others do the same thing!!
.
And I am happy!! Truly happy waking up each day and following my dream!
.
Some days are easier than others, of course, but when I feel like I am on the wrong path, I look back and remember how I got here, and how my dream is BIGGER, every day, how I am not here to be rich in money, but to be rich in helping others with THEIR OWN God Sized Dreams.
.
I have big goals. And a lot of them are hairy scary audacious goals but there is no other option but to succeed! Why? Because the fear of having to go back to teaching is scarier then the hairy scary audacious goals I have set for myself!
.
Making this leap, following my God Sized Dreams was the best decision I made and I would love for you to become part to my team working towards your goals whether they are making a supplemental income, replacing your salary, or just having the extra income to spend.
.
#GlossBossDynasty is on fire!! Don't ask why? Ask yourself why not?!? And join our amazing team and get ready for an amazing half of 2017 to come your way!!

Health and Fitness Tip #132 - What to add to your Green Tea

7 Ingredients To Add To Your Green Tea Every Morning

You’ve heard the rumors about green tea. It’s healthy, you get it. But what if you don’t like the taste? Green tea has a decidedly bitter aftertaste that many people simply can’t stand. This creates something of a dilemma — you want all the amazing health benefits of green tea, but can’t bring yourself to slurp it down first thing in the morning.

Luckily, your green tea dilemma is easily solved. There’s plenty of healthy, natural ingredients you can add to your green tea to make it taste a whole lot better. The beauty of adding in these ingredients is that they often amplify the healing powers of green tea, making it an elixir of health, rather than a hot cup of no thank you!

Here are seven ingredients you can add to your green tea to not only make it taste a whole lot better, but make it a lot healthier in the process.

1. Ginger

Ginger and green tea go together like bread and butter. It’s a match made in heaven, and adding in a few slices of fresh ginger is bound to improve the taste of green tea. Ginger is a superfood in its own right, helping to improve cardiovascular health, assist upset stomachs, diabetes and arthritis, and even treat peptic ulcers. A healthy dose of fresh ginger added to your green tea will significantly increase its antioxidant content and help fight off any colds or seasonal maladies that are lurking in the shadows.

2. Basil

Add basil to green tea for a natural anti-inflammatory.
Believe it or not, the leaves of this fragrant herb can actually pair quite nicely with a steaming cup of green tea. Simply snip a few basil leaves off and leave them to steep alongside the green teabag. Basil is another great health addition to your tea, and has been used for years as a natural anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and diuretic by Asian cultures. Basil also contains plenty of vitamin A, an essential component of cardiovascular health.

 3. Mint

Mint is another tried and true pairing with green tea. It is certain to make your green tea taste better. Use the same process for adding mint to your green tea as you did with basil, simply allowing the fresh mint leaves to steep alongside the tea bag. If you don’t have fresh mint, you could always just combine green tea and mint tea to make a match made in heaven! Mint and peppermint leaves have been shown to have strong antimicrobial and antiviral properties, powerful antioxidant properties, and even significant anti-allergenic powers.

4. Honey

Honey added to green tea provides anti-allergenic properties.
This is probably the moment you’ve been waiting for: something truly delicious to add to your green tea! For those who have an insufferable sweet tooth, honey provides a great compromise due to its active enzymes. These aid digestion and dampen the glycemic effect which is so profound with other refined sugars.

Not only will adding honey to your green tea make it taste sweeter and richer, it’s also loaded with health benefits. These include anti-allergenic properties and respiratory soothing qualities, making it an excellent go-to during those cold winter months. If possible, stick to raw honey, and don’t add in your honey until your tea has cooled for a few minutes.

5. Lemon

Fresh lemon juice makes a great addition to green tea, not only helping it to taste better, but also adding plenty of its own beneficial properties into the mix. If you often find green tea too bitter, the sharpness of lemon should offset that bitterness and add in a hint of citrus that’ll have you coming back for more. Lemons contain plenty of immune-supporting vitamin C, along with helping to flush toxins from the body and provide significant concentrations of calcium and potassium. A teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice added to the green tea should be enough to get your tastebuds singing out their praises.

 6. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a personal favorite of mine. It provides the sensation of sweetness without any of the health-harming glucose and fructose that you’ll find in conventional sugars and sweeteners. Not only that, cinnamon tastes great in tandem with green tea. So, either sprinkle a small amount in with your green tea and mix well, or allow a cinnamon stick to steep alongside the teabag to impart its wonderful earthy flavors.

Cinnamon is another amazingly therapeutic natural ingredient, helping to regulate blood sugar, impart a host of antioxidants and fight pathogens in the body. Use cinnamon sparingly, however, as too much can quickly become harmful.

7. Coconut oil

Coconut oil added to green tea can help regulate blood pressure.
Adding coconut oil to green tea might not be for the faint of heart, but it will sure increase the health-giving potential of your tea. The healthy saturated fats in coconut oil mean it’ll have you feeling fuller for longer, and those fats will also help you utilize more fat-soluble vitamins from your morning cup of green. Not only that, coconut oil is mildly antibacterial. It is also great for your skin, hair and nails. Plus, it helps to lower blood pressure. All this, but only if you can handle the layer of fat that forms on top of your green tea when you add in a dollop of coconut oil.

Motivational Wednesday

No Pain. No Gain.

There is no gain without pain.
.
Don’t avoid the pain, attack it.
.
Go for the pain and you will realize the gain.
.
So what do you want? What is that ONE thing that you truly want?
.
What are you willing to sacrifice? What are you willing to have pain for? What are you willing to struggle? What are you willing to suffer?
.
So many times we say we WANT something but aren't willing to make the necessary sacrifices to get there.
.
We say we want to lose weight, be healthy, be happy, be our own boss, find a new job. But when it comes down to putting in the work, the discipline, the consistency to get what we want, we DON'T. We give up, we never start or we make EXCUSES!!
So ask yourself are you willing to give up junk food for a month? Are you willing to put the money towards your Health instead of the new shoes you want? Are you willing to step outside your comfort zone and do things everyday to help you be your own boss? Are you willing to sacrifice time to find a new job?
.
Do you still want it? Bad enough to go through it?
.
If you do? Then do it.
.
So, how will you choose to suffer today?
.
What pain will you go for?
.
Remember it will be hard at first, but it will be all WORTH it in the end!!

Health and Fitness Tip #131- 5 Health Benefits of Avocados

5 Health Benefits Of Avocados

Few people would argue with the statement that avocados are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Even fewer would disagree that they’re an amazingly versatile fruit (you heard right — a fruit) and that they can make an average meal a fantastically delicious and nutritious one in short order. Quite simply, avocados are the bee’s knees.

But then there’s those that stay well away from avocados due to their fat content. While much of the world is slowly beginning to embrace the notion that saturated and monounsaturated fats are a good thing (and low-fat diets are a very bad thing), there are still many people who wouldn’t touch a fatty food with a 10-foot pole.

While these “fat-averse” people might be hesitant to sample the wondrous green goo that is the avocado, there are plenty of other reasons why avocados are good for you. They’re absolutely loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, they’re surprisingly filling, and they’re anti-inflammatory. Not only that, they’re pre-packaged by nature, meaning no nasty plastic wrapping and unnecessary waste — just slice, scoop and throw the skin and pit into the compost.

Based on the above, there’s no doubt that bringing more avocado into your life would be a very smart thing indeed. To provide even more motivation, here are five reasons why avocados are good for you.

 1. Avocados are high in heart-healthy fats

Because fat still gets such a bad wrap these days, I simply couldn’t resist bringing up this one first. Newsflash: some fats are good for you! Very good, in fact. Avocados, it just so happens, are amazingly rich in monounsaturated fat, which is one of the “good guys” in the cardiovascular world.

In addition to helping you feel fuller for longer, monounsaturated fats can actually dramatically improve your health. A 2014 study published in the Journal of Lipids in Health and Disease found that monounsaturated fat consumption was associated with an overall risk in all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, cardiovascular events and stroke.

This might go against everything you’ve been taught to believe, but you may have noticed both health experts and government-endorsed ads recently starting to promote olive oil as a good source of healthy fats. What’s the primary form of fat in olive oil? Why, none other than monounsaturated fat!

3. Avocados contain plenty of vitamin C, too

Not far behind vitamins A, E, K and D in the health department are vitamin C, an antioxidant critical in supporting a strong immune system and forming healthy connective tissue in the body. Avocados contain surprisingly high levels of vitamin C — just another reason why they’re good for you!

 4. Avocados help you absorb carotenoids

Avocados are high in oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that promotes the absorption of carotenoids. You’ve probably heard about how carotenoids are the compounds that give carrots and other orange vegetables their vibrant orange hue, but that’s not the end of the story. Carotenoid consumption is directly associated with improved health and reduced risk of disease. Therefore, eating more avocados means more oleic acid, which in turn promotes greater uptake of these nurturing natural compounds.

5. Avocados are high in protein

Avocados are a good source of protein for building muscle.
While monounsaturated fats might take the lion’s share of the humble avocado, they also contain a decent amount of protein too! The highest concentration of protein of any fruit, as it happens. For this reason, avocados make an excellent food to eat before or after workouts, as their healthy fats provide long-lasting energy. Plus their protein helps to build lean muscle mass, which can burn off body fat to help you reach your weight loss goals.

Easy avocado recipe: guacamole

If you’re getting tired of simply scooping avocados onto your favorite salad or slicing them into a sandwich (I don’t think I’ll ever get tired or that!), there’s something else you can make: guacamole! This treat is quick, easy, amazingly nutritious and undeniably delicious! Here’s a quick, easy guacamole recipe to try:

Avocados can easily be turned into guacamole for a healthy snack.

Ingredients
3 ripe avocados
1 tomato, diced
1/2 onion (red or white)
1/2 cup finely chopped cilantro
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

Slice open the avocados and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh. Use a fork to mash the flesh in a bowl, working it around until it forms a smooth, even consistency.
Stir in the tomato, onion, cilantro, lemon juice and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Thoroughly mix the ingredients until blended to satisfaction.
Taste the mixture, and if it’s lacking in flavor then it may need a little more salt or a dash more of lemon juice.
Eat immediately, or store in an airtight container in the fridge.

 How to ripen avocados faster
We’ve all been there: you get to the avocado section in your supermarket and every single one is hard. Rather than ditching these amazingly nutritious fruits, try this trick instead. When you get home, place the avocados in a brown paper bag along with an apple or banana. Leave for one to three days, checking every day, and you’ll find they ripen a whole lot faster. You’re welcome!

Try avocado oil and avocado seed

The oil from avocados is great for high-heat cooking.
The flesh of the avocado isn’t the only part of this amazing fruit that’s good for you. Avocado oil is an excellent, nutritious alternative to olive oil (and it has a higher heat capacity, too). Not only that, the actual seed itself has many health benefits, so consider finding ways to include that in your daily meals!
