Health and Fitness Tip #149 - 3 Ways To Make Your Morning Coffee Healthy Again

3 Ways To Make Your Morning Coffee Healthy Again

It’s a national tradition, so ingrained in the fabric of our daily lives that we couldn’t imagine our mornings without it. Coffee. It’s delicious. It revives us. It cheers our sleep-addled minds and gets us in the zone for a busy day ahead.

And when it’s prepared right, coffee can be an amazingly nourishing, nutritious drink. Organic, shade-grown coffee in particular is absolutely loaded with antioxidants, with a heady mix of polyphenols that support liver health, shield DNA from harm and even lower your risk of tinnitus. Research even suggests that the caffeine found in coffee can help to boost metabolism, reduce risk of type 2 diabetes, and improve cognitive function. All that, in your morning cup of Joe? Not bad, am I right?

But your morning coffee can very quickly turn from healthy to harmful with the addition of certain ingredients. So if you love your coffee but also care about your health, you should make a point of never adding these ingredients to that steaming cup of goodness.

1.Cut out: sugar

You know by now that sugar is public enemy number one when it comes to your health. Here are just some of the things that happen to your body when you add just a spoonful of sugar to your coffee:

your immune system is suppressed
your blood sugar is elevated
your internal mineral balance is disrupted
your teeth begin to decay
parasitic bacteria in your gut begin to flourish
your digestion is thrown off
you increase your likelihood of cancer and other chronic diseases

And that’s just the tip of the sugary iceberg. Suffice to say that in your quest to make that morning coffee a little sweeter, you’re reversing all those wonderful benefits of this mighty beverage and turning it into an elixir of harm. Skip on the sugar next time, and you’ll be doing your body a huge favor.

Sugar Substitute: Cinnamon

Cinnamon can prevent the buildup of odor-causing bacteria in the mouth. High quality, pure cinnamon elicits a similar response from our tastebuds to sugar, meaning that while it doesn’t cause blood sugar spikes or any adverse health effects, your morning coffee still tastes sweeter by adding it. Cinnamon it adds an earthy richness along with its health benefits, which include:

preventing the buildup of odor-causing bacteria in the mouth
stabilizing weight by thinning the blood (also a reason not to have too much cinnamon!) and balancing blood glucose
fighting oxidizing free-radical damage
killing harmful pathogens like E. coli and salmonella
Cinnamon is what sugar wants to be, so be sure to add it to your coffee instead next time!

2.Cut out: creamer

I’m truly repulsed by this stuff. Just because it has the word “cream” in it doesn’t mean it’s actual cream! Indeed, creamer is about as far from it’s dairy origins as it could possibly be, and is loaded with nasty sweeteners and hydrogenated fats than can do some serious damage in your body. Besides, ever wonder why it doesn’t need to be refrigerated? Anything ultra heat-treated, like creamer, is never a good thing in my books.

Creamer Substitute: Real Cream

Organic cream without additives contains essential vitamins and amino acids.
It seems like a no-brainer to me, but many people are still unnecessarily afraid of full-fat dairy products. Why is that? Don’t they know that full-fat dairy is the healthiest form of this already nutrient-dense food, and that it tastes so much better than nasty artificial creamers?

For best results, seek out organic cream without any additives and, for crying out loud, without UHT processing! If that bottle of cream isn’t sitting in the chilled area of your supermarket, stay well clear of it. Full-fat cream contains a wide range of essential vitamins and amino acids, further amplifying the health-promoting benefits of your morning coffee and making it taste a whole lot better. Three cheers for real cream!

3.Cut Out: Skim Milk

The same argument applies to skim milk: why would you bother? Sure, it’s still better than artificial additives like creamer, but skim milk has literally had all of it’s goodness removed — they’re literally skimming off the fat, which incidentally is where all the nutrients are located in milk. What’s left is a liquid that has little flavor and is actually more likely to set you up for allergies like lactose intolerance.

Skim Milk Substitute: Whole Milk

Whole milk contains vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K.
You know the aim of the game by now: real, unadulterated food is always better! Swap out your skim milk for full-fat whole milk and you’ll wonder what you’ve been doing all these years! Coffee with whole milk added is so amazingly tasty, and the healthy fats contained within whole milk help your body to metabolize the nutrients in coffee more efficiently and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Whole milk also contains loads of calcium, has an excellent omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio, and contains the essential vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K… making it a true superfood! And to really make an already healthy beverage even healthier, try adding raw milk to your coffee once it’s cooled down a little to provide a great source of healthy probiotics and digestive enzymes.

And you thought that cup of coffee was just a guilty pleasure!

Motivational Wednesday - Decide You are NOT going to stay where you are at!

The first step towards getting somewhere is to DECIDE that you are NOT going to stay where you are!

Change is scary! I fear change just as much as you do! I like my routine and I like sticking to it daily! I like knowing what is going to happen next.
.
However, if you want to change, if you want to go after a goal, you MUST make a change! And the first step into making that change is telling yourself, telling your mind that you are going to change, that you no longer want to stay where you are at!!
.
If you are unhappy with your self, your looks, your weight, your job, your situation then you need to change! Life is too short to be unhappy.
.
So face your fear of change and embrace it!! It will be scary at first, but it will be sooo worth it!! That I can promise you!!

LIFE.

Life

It can be scary. It can be terrifying.
.
And recently with all the things going on in the USA, it makes you stop dead in your tracks and ask why.
.
Unfortunately there are no answers to why terrible things happen.
.
But there is God to turn to, especially now in these moments. He doesn’t cause terrible things to happen to us, but he always brings good out in the things that do happen.
.
Tonight hug your family a little tighter, call up a loved one or a lost one and tell them you love them. And tonight bow your head and pray for those that have suffered great loss these past few days, weeks, and month.
.
And thank God for giving you today. Remember tomorrow isn’t promised, so live in the present!
.
God Bless You all! 😘💋✨

Health and Fitness Tip #148 - 5 Reasons You Should Put Apple Cider Vinegar In Your Baths

5 Reasons You Should Put Apple Cider Vinegar In Your Baths

By now you’re probably familiar with the therapeutic brilliance that is apple cider vinegar, what us “hip” health junkies refer to as ACV. Apple cider vinegar stimulates more efficient digestion, repopulates the gut with beneficial bacteria, encourages weight loss, balances the body’s internal pH, lowers blood sugar levels, provides decent levels of vitamin C and battles hard when it comes to fighting microorganisms that would otherwise do you harm.

In essence, we should all give a tip of the hat to ACV — it’s the real deal.

But there’s yet another great way to bring the brilliance of ACV into your life: ACV baths. Yup, the same stuff you mix into your morning health tonic or wash your hair with can also be used to create one of the most beneficial bath soaks on the planet. Here’s why I’m a new convert to ACV baths, and soon you will be too!

1.ACV baths provide vitamins and minerals for your skin

As the product of fermented apples, ACV is loaded with a wide range of vitamins and minerals. As the process of fermentation advances, the wild yeasts that colonize the apple juice begin to break down the natural compounds found in the apples into more digestible forms. This means that the vitamin C content often increases, complex B vitamins become more bioavailable and a range of trace minerals are released.

And believe it or not, these beneficial compounds are as good for your skin and they are for your insides! By adding ACV to your bath, you’re providing the body’s largest organ with a potent source of nutrients that will promote skin cell recovery and greater elasticity. Sure, you might smell a little vinegary afterwards, but in this case the pros very much outweighs the cons!

2. ACV Baths Can Treat Stubborn B.O.

ACV can naturally reduce body odor by wiping out bacteria.
Constantly battling with persistent body odor problems? Forget about harmful antiperspirant deodorants and scrubbing your pits with soap until the cows come home… ACV baths may just provide the answer!

The beneficial acids found in apple cider vinegar have long been used to wipe out the bacteria that are known to cause body odor in the first place. By soaking your armpits and other pungent areas of your body in a strong apple cider vinegar bath, you’ll be allowing those acids to work their wily ways on the odor-causing bacteria… with the result being a less smelly you post-bath!

To really seal the deal, dab some half diluted ACV under your armpits after the bath and then rinse or wipe off with a cool wet cloth 30 seconds later. If you feel the need to use a deodorant, be sure to use a gentle, natural variety that won’t irritate your pits.

3.ACV baths can treat a wide range of skin problems

Many of the most common skin problems and diseases are caused by adverse microbiological activity — bacteria and fungal invasions that can lead to anything from athlete’s foot to eczema. Apple cider vinegar is a commonly recommended natural treatment for these skin conditions as it targets the microorganisms that cause the issue in the first place. You could just dab some ACV on the affected areas of your skin, or you could take a nice therapeutic ACV bath to really get those beneficial acids soaking deep into your dermal layers and give them plenty of time to wipe out the little nasties causing the problem.

4.ACV baths can treat acne and dandruff

In much the same way that ACV baths treat the underlying causes of skin afflictions, they can also be utilized to get acne breakouts under control and alleviate scalp dandruff. Acne breakouts are often due to excess sebum production or an imbalanced skin pH, both of which may respond well to soaking in ACV, while dandruff is sometimes caused by a yeast overgrowth on the scalp… and yeast is easy pickings for apple cider vinegar!

5.     ACV baths condition your hair

ACV can make hair feel moisturized and hydrated for days.
You can ditch your shampoo and conditioner in favor of a simple but amazingly effective natural duo: baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Once every two weeks or so, first wash your hair with a tablespoon of baking soda mix into a cup of water, then follow up with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar similarly diluted. The second step is just as important as the first; while baking soda helps to cleanse the scalp and rub a little of the accumulated dead skin cells away, it also dries my hair out. As soon as I rub in the ACV, my hair is instantly moisturized and feels hydrated for days afterwards — it’s nature’s conditioner!

For this reason, taking a good long soak in an ACV bath can also condition your hair and leave it feeling smooth and supple. Not a bad way to end an already amazingly therapeutic bath!

How to use ACV in your next bath

This one is simple enough: fill your bath as you normally would with warm water (water that’s too hot will kill the beneficial bacteria in the ACV), then pour in one to two cups of raw apple cider vinegar. Soak for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse off in the shower if you don’t want to smell like a walking chunk of vinegar!
