Health and Fitness Tip #211 - Top 10 Foods That Are Good for the Skin

Top 10 Foods That Are Good for the Skin

While you can find plenty of recipes for skin-related, food-based home remedies -- banana masks and oatmeal scrubs, to name two -- topical use is just one way to access the health and beauty benefits of products you can keep in your cupboard. Nature has provided a variety of foods that can help to give you great skin by working from the inside out. Incorporate these delicious goodies into your diet and watch your skin lose wrinkles and gain glow.

1. Walnuts

Walnuts are packed with the elusive and important omega-3 fatty acids. Among their many benefits for the body, they help protect against damage from ultraviolet radiation -- think of them as a natural sunscreen you can eat. Other nuts, such as almonds, are also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

2. Avocado

Avocado is a time-honored ingredient in homemade facial masks, but it does its good work for your skin when you eat it, too. Avocado is an excellent source of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps the skin repair itself. Its fat and liquid content also helps to keep your skin moisturized and supple.

3. Salmon

Salmon is another food filled with omega-3 fatty acids, which protect against sun damage and also reduce inflammation in general. Other fatty fish, such as sardines and mackerel, are also good sources of omega-3.

4. Blueberries

Blueberries have been touted as a "superfood" thanks to their abundant nutritional value. For one thing, they are packed with antioxidants -- notably, vitamins C and E. Antioxidants protect the tissues in your body and help repair damage. Other berries, including blackberries, raspberries and strawberries, are also rich in skin-friendly nutrients.

5. Flax Seed

Flax seed is often recommended for the boost in dietary fiber it provides, but it's also a great source of those valuable omega-3 fatty acids. Additionally, flax seed contains compounds known as lignans, which also act as antioxidants.

6. Sweet Potato

Sweet potato's orange color gives away its secret nutritional benefit -- it's loaded with beta-carotene, an important antioxidant. In fact, beta-carotene is closely related to retinol, the anti-aging compound found in fancy facial products.

7. Chocolate

A 2006 study by German scientists published in "The Journal of Nutrition" showed that not only is chocolate full of compounds called flavonoids that act as powerful antioxidants, but that women who eat dark chocolate regularly have better skin texture, less redness and better skin hydration than those studied who didn't.

8. Spinach

Spinach is packed with all sorts of anti-aging antioxidants, including vitamins A, C and E. This lovely leafy green is also a strong source of a variety of minerals, such as magnesium, which help heal wounds and other skin damage. The high water content in spinach also helps to keep your skin hydrated. Other dark leafy, greens, too, have similar skin-supportive nutritional profiles.

9. Tomatoes

While tomatoes, like many foods, are rife with antioxidants such as vitamin C, there's one antioxidant in particular that stands out -- lycopene. Lycopene is the compound that provides tomatoes with its red color; among its many health benefits, it offers powerful protection against the skin-aging effects of certain free radicals. Cooking tomatoes helps the body absorb lycopene.

10. Green Tea

Green tea contains two classes of antioxidants known as polyphenols and catechins. These antioxidants may help protect the green-tea lover from skin cancer and assist in the preservation of skin elasticity.

Only One Decision Away

Only One Decision Away

You are only ONE DECISION away from a completely different life. And it all comes down to your deciding if you want to #Try Or #Cry.
.
A year ago I would have said whatever to the quote. I honestly would have chose to cry. Because let’s be real that’s easier and when your scared, broken, and depressed crying just sounds like the better choice.
.
Seriously, 11 months ago I didn’t even know what Ketones where let a lot that they could and would change my life. And I didn’t have the funds to afford it.
But today, with Christmas approach, I am to spoil all the love ones in my life! And it’s all because of this business and this amazing drink I have added to my daily routine!
.
And it’s all because of that ONE decision I made 11 months ago!! 😭🙌🏼😱#ThankYouGod
.
I know, I know. You are saying too good to be true, or that yeah I can do it but you can’t.
.
STOP! That’s where that decision making comes in. That’s where the try or cry choice comes in. You are making the decision NOT to experience the amazingness that could be happening to you RIGHT NOW. You are choicing to cry.
.
You HAVE to BELIEVE it is POSSIBLE for YOU too!!! You have to TRY!!!
.
Trust me God can do ANYTHING but he first wants you to BELIEVE in yourself, and TRUST in him
.
And then...
.
You have to TRY. You have to put your heart and hustle in to it! You have to work for it. And no you don’t have to work 9-5 with it, but you have to put time and effort into it, to take it where you want it to go.
.
Has it been easy for me? No. I've had to learn and work harder than my past business, I have had to change habits and come out of my shell!
.
But if you ask has it been worth it? And well I will tell you, HECK YEAH!!!
.
What ONE decision can you make today? This week? What is one thing that YOU can say yes to?
.
Maybe it’s your health. Maybe it’s changing your bad habits to healthier ones. Maybe it’s saying yes to God. Maybe its finally jumping at a business opportunity you have been wanting to do.
.
Whatever it is, don’t wait another minute! Say YES right now! Today!! And watch JESUS take the wheel!

Motivational Monday - How Will you will look at today?

You can look at Monday in 2 ways:

1. It can be the start to a horrible, awful, no fun, unsuccessful, struggle of a week.
.
OR
.
2. A fresh start, a reminder that this week you are going to be better than last week, that no matter what happens this week you are going to stay positive and not let it get to you.
.
I remember waking up every Monday and being depressed and down that it was a new week.
.
And guess what when I did it made for a crappy, miserable, unsuccessful week.
.
The days I woke up speaking positive affirmations to myself, I ended up starting my week on the right foot, had a successful, fun, positive week!
.
In the end it's the choices we make at the start of the day that create the results we have at the end of the day.
.
It's your choice.
.
How will you look at your Monday?
.
How will you start your day off?

Health and Fitness Tip #210 - 5 Ways You Could be Sabotaging Your Health (And How to Fix Them)

5 Ways You Could be Sabotaging Your Health (And How to Fix Them)

Daily habits can be so ingrained that you may not be aware you’re partaking in unhealthy behaviors. Whether it’s too much time spent scrolling on your phone or not making time to get some sunshine, it can be easy to fall into routines that negatively affect your health.

Here, five common habits that are counterproductive and how to fix them:

1 NEGATIVE SELF-TALK
Our inner dialogue can directly impact our success and happiness. Maybe you find yourself wishing and telling yourself you “should” do something, which can lead to inactivity. Moreover, shame never motivates positive behavior change.

Fix: Examine your daily mantra and find ways to interject positivity. Accept where you’re at currently and speak kindly to yourself and you’ll notice it will help motivate you more.

2 SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The average person spends almost two hours per day on social media. While apps like Instagram and Facebook can be a positive point of connection, it’s easy to fall into the comparison trap, which can make you feel sad, frustrated and isolated. Aside from messages that could affect mood and motivation, the sheer hours spent plugged in squanders precious time available to take action on health goals such meal prepping and exercising.

Fix: Schedule a set amount of time, and maybe even time of day, to check your social media networks, then shut it down.

3 STAYING INDOORS ALL DAY
When you spend 8+ hours at an office (often sitting behind a computer screen) and then rush home to cook dinner, clean and get the kids in bed, it doesn’t leave much time for getting outside. Getting a little fresh air daily is important because sunshine boosts vitamin D levels and serotonin, a hormone that helps improve mood.

Fix: Go for a walk and aim to spend at least 15–30 minutes outside to reap nature’s calming effects.

4 WAITING TO START UNTIL TOMORROW
Continually telling yourself you’ll start eating better and actually go to that exercise class tomorrow is an unproductive mentality that can lead to procrastination. There will never be a perfect time to make a change.

Fix: Try setting a timer to tackle some of your goals. Just 15 minutes of walking or cooking can go a long way. Eventually, those 15 minutes can extend to 20 or 30 minutes. Small changes add up and can help ensure success long-term.

5 FORGETTING TO CARVE OUT TIME FOR YOURSELF
Between family, work, friends and life, it can be hard to remember (or figure out how) to take time for self-care.

Fix: Start by setting reminders on your phone to take a walk break, grab a sip of water, have a healthy snack or call the doctor to schedule an appointment. At least once a week, make a plan to do the things you enjoy — head to the park with family, meet a friend for an exercise class or book a spa day.
