Transformation Tuesday - MY P90X Results

So I haven't done a Transformation Tuesday in a while, but I finished P90x on Saturday and I wanted to share my results.

In the left picture my before picture is right after I finished the Ultimate Reset. And on the left is 90 days later when I finished P90x. On the left I weighed 117. On the right I weigh 127. Yes you read that right, with P90x I GAINED 10 pounds. 10 pounds of MUSCLE that is.

With P90x I continued to eat a WHOLE plant based diet! I have allowed myself a treat here and there, because the hubs, who is a football coach, liked going out and celebrating when they won, which honestly wasn't a lot this year!

Along with my eating whole plant-based foods I had to up my calories, because P90x an intense program and the workouts are longer (45-90 minutes) Also the program guide called for it! The p90x book actually said that I should be eating between 1800 - 2000 calories a day. To me that is a TON. However, I am did eat anywhere from 1400 - 1900 a day, it really just depended on the meals I had planned out for the week. But to be honest with you, my calorie count was not something I was worried about. My philosophy was if I am hungry then I will eat. Plus eating Whole Plant-Based foods makes me feel 100% better than I did when I was eating anything and everything.

So why did I continue to follow a whole plant base diet? Well, in August, I did the Ultimate reset and after doing the reset, I felt TOO good to go back to the old ways of eating. Plus this way is soooo much fun! Its always something different and my husband, LOVES the plant base diet because there is always something new to try. Which I need to be honest with you, before we did the Ultimate Rest, I got lazy and we pretty much had the same thing every night for dinner. Doing this diet, I really didn't think I would be able to continue with it or with P90x. I thought I would have to give up one or the other. But I don't! I feel great!!

Also with P90x I started using the Beachbody Performance Line. Why?!? Because this Line of products helps your body push harder, go longer, and recover faster! And guess what?!?! IT DID! I had more energy, felt great, was able to push harder, and recovered faster! This line of products is great and a supplement to invest in if you are doing HIGH intensity programs like P90x, Insanity, or are an avid weight lifter.

So I want to be honest with you. We all know the scale is the devil and we rely on it WAY too much. But we are human and I do it too. And when I finished P90x and stepped on the scale, I want you to know I cried! To see the number 127 scared me and I hated. I have always been conscience of my body weight and looks, unfortunately I grew up being told you had to be skinny and you had to be a certain size to fit in. So when I saw 127, the number scared me and me think I was back to where I started.

BUT...I know I am not. I know deep down that I am FITTER, STRONGER, and HEALTHIER than I have ever been in my life. And I know that the scale is reading muscle mass and not fat.

But its still hard to swallow when you get on the scale. Its hard to see that number and the gain. But when I look closely at my body I see where I gained the muscle, and its in my butt (its firm and round - I have never had before), my legs - which are always my biggest muscle gain, I have always had big legs but now I know they are big because of muscle and not fat, and in my arms - my upper body is the strongest it has ever been.

NO I don't have the 6 pack I wanted with this program, I didn't do the ab work like I wanted too and I had to eat more calories on this program.

So if you are out there and reading this, you don't have to do P90x, but know that programs are out there to get you results, make you stronger, fitter, and healthier, so don't be afraid to do a program becasue you don't have weight to lose, as long as you eat healthy, the amount of calories the program suggests, then you won't lose weight but gain muscle.

Also know that you are not alone when it comes to the battle with the scale. We all struggle with reminding ourselves its not abot the scale but about how our bodies feel especially when we put on our clothes.

Phase 1 of P90x is over!!

As you all know, 3 weeks ago I started the P90x journey. One of my goals with being a Health and Fitness Coach is to do all the Programs that Beachbody comes out with and P90x was up next.

I am through Phase 1 of the program and on to the Recovery Week before starting Phase 2. I started doing P90x without being 100% into the program and the workouts. I honestly wasn't excited for the longer workouts, and I just didn't have the drive or desire to do P90x. However, I committed to it and refused to quit. Plus I honestly, felt it working within the first few days. And I have now made it past Phase 1 and am excited with the results I am seeing and feeling!

During Phase 1, I have continued to eat a WHOLE plant based diet! I have only allowed myself one treat the past 3 weeks and that is because the hubs, who is a football coach, wanted to go out and celebrate their Home Opener Win!  I have also upped my calories for this program since it is longer workouts and the program is more intense.

The p90x book says I should be eating between 1800 - 2000 calories a day. To me that is a TON. However, I am eating any where from 1500 - 1900 a day, it really just depends on the meals I had planned out. However, my calorie count is not what I am worrying about. My philosophy is if I am hungry then I will eat.

Like I said, I am continuing with a whole plant base diet. After doing the reset, I felt TOO good to go back to the old ways of eating.

The only thing I noticed during the first 2 weeks of P90x was that I was exhausted and to the point I struggled to stay awake during the day. It wasn't because I wasn't eating enough, I was definitely eating more than my share. Doing P90x completely shocked my system and I needed something to help me perform at my best and still be able to function through out the day.

So the middle of week 2 I am changed that. How?  I started the Beachbody Performance Line (Pictured below). And guess what?!?! The performance line was the answer! I have more energy, feel great, am able to push harder, and stay awake through the day!

So what am I taking and when?

I have energize (Pre-workout drink) before the workout, hydrate (drink that keeps your muscles hydrated) during the workout, chocolate protein recovery shake immediately after the workout! And at night 30-60 minutes before I go to bed I take the vanilla recharge shake!

I was honestly nervous to start these since they technically aren't PLANT BASED but they are seriously helping and they don't count as calories or containers because they are helping my body perform and recovery.

New Journey Starts Today

Its Monday! Its a brand new week and great day to start a NEW program. I have done a lot of Beachbody Programs and since finishing the Ultimate Reset I have been debating on what to do, so I was just doing PiYo for a week since that is the program my husband is doing during the Football Season.

Well this weekend after long debate, I chose to start P90X!! Yes that is right I am taking on Tony Horton's first program and the one that I have seen so many people get amazing results from AND hear that they LOVE it!

So what is P90X?

P90X’s core training technique relies on “muscle confusion,”.

Muscle confusion is a variety of exercises. Typically a lot of programs focus purely on stationary yoga, Pilates, weight training or cardiovascular — P90X has all those things. The main purpose is to avoid the three things that cause most people to stop exercising: boredom, injuries and plateaus. In P90X, there’s variety in fitness with muscle confusion, and the goal is for people to get through the whole 90 days so they have real success and real results.

Who gets the most out of P90X?

When P90X was created, it was made for two categories of people. This program was  geared towards people who weren’t getting results at the Gym. However, this program has turned into a workout for ANYONE, including the Military and A LOT of clinically obese have and still use this program. One of the reasons this works is that there are dozens of modifications other programs don’t have.

What can users expect during the 90-day regimen?

It’s broken up into cycles. Each month there is a different sequence of exercises [each laid out in the DVDs]. The first three weeks you do the basic exercises, and then you have one recovery week. The second month you get a whole new bunch of routines done in different sequences and the recovery week again. Remember recovery doesn’t mean you don’t do anything; recovery means you are still working hard. [That is, you’re still working out, but not quite as rigorously as during the first three weeks of the month.] In the final month, you do a combination of what you did in the first and second month, which is an extension of muscle confusion.

What equipment is needed besides the DVDs?

In a majority of the exercises the only thing required is the human body, Mother Earth and Sir Isaac Newton’s law of gravity. But having a pull-up bar helps. You don’t need it, but it certainly enhances the program, as well as dumbbells and bands. Some people just use resistance bands, but some men who want more size will go out and get dumbbells.

What if I don’t want bulging muscles like the buff people?

There are three ways you can go through the program. There’s the classic version, which is the basic way we designed it. But we also created a lean version, which focuses more on flexibility, range of motion and cardiovascular fitness. There’s another version for athletes called doubles, which they’re doing twice a day. … You can customize the 90 days based on what you need. I am doing the LEAN version.

How important is diet when you’re on the P90X system?

DIET is crucial! We all know that. You CAN'T outwork a bad diet. So yes, It’s about the food as well. Often the reason so many people in this country struggle is because they are putting the wrong things in their mouths. There’s too much fat, sugar, salt and chemicals coming out of plastic bags and cans. Eat [foods] that when you look down at your plate, you can pronounce them. I am going Vegetarian / Vegan after the Ultimate Reset which means a PLANT Based diet.

Is P90X doable with an already packed schedule?

It’s an hour a day. A lot of people would say no. … BUT people find time to fit it in because they see that it works.

A lot of people have friends and family and coworkers and neighbors that look different, that act different, that feel different, that have more energy, that sleep better, that are off their meds because of P90X AND shakeology. I bet you know someone your life that has done P90X and they rave about it and the results they got from it.

So I am taking the journey! I am going to find out what the Rave is all about! And today was day 1. I did Core Synergistics and let me tell you, I am SORE!!! It was  a great workout that was NOT high impact, but it was HIGH intensity! You do the moves slow but concentrated and precisely. The workout was an hour long which I hated but I have the time and I want to check this program off my bucket list! ;)
