Health and Fitness Tip #24 - Workout Chafe Free

Workout chafe-free

There's nothing fun about chafing. You can get the rash (caused by moisture and constant friction) on your thighs, around your sports bra, and even under your arms, to name a few hot spots! To prevent the next occurrence, try rubbing on an anti-chafe stick like Bodyglide For Her Anti-Chafing Stick ($9; amazon.com) in any spots that have the potential to chafe. Moisture-wicking fabrics help, too, so if you have a few quick-dry shirts (Nike, Asics, and Under Armour all make 'em), save those for your more intense workouts or long runs, when chafing is most likely to occur.
Summer is coming which means warmer weather is coming. If you are someone that likes to workout outside or go for long runs then be aware of your skin and avoid this annoying and uncomfortable rash if you can.

Right Where I Belong

Do you fit in? Do you feel like you just don't belong? Have you felt like that your whole life?

All my life I have left that I never really fit in. That I could never really be me or show my true quirky self.

I have always hid my celiac's disease from people so they didn't know and didn't judge me for having it and being "weird" when it came to eating. Even in high school and being a cheerleader, I never felt like I fit in. I wasn't the skinny girl, I wasn't the popular one, etc. And then in college I joined a sorority and become more open but I still never felt that I fit in. I had Celiacs, I was weird, I was shy, I had quirks. All my life those 4 things have hindered me from being me.

But when I met Rich I could be me. He was weird, he was quirky, and he loved me for me and my weirdness and and my quirks and my celiacs. However, he was the only one I could be me around! I still didn't fit in, even as a teacher and in a school  working full time.

However, with Beachbody I am me! I fit in and I am accepted for who I am. No one judges me because I have celiacs or that I am weird or that I have quirks, or that I am an introvert and need time outs from large social settings some times. These ladies have accepted ME for who I AM!

Up till 1 1/2 years ago, I never felt like I truly belonged. I had accepted that and moved on from it. I had Rich and I was okay with that. But today, I know that, that is no longer the case! The past year and a half I have made some of the best friends that I never would have made if it wasn't for Beachbody. I have met people that have touched my life in so many ways that they don't know, and I have rekindled friendships that faded after high school and college.

God has shown me that I am truly where I need to be, where I can be me and grow to be a stronger leader and woman because of the men and women he has placed in my life with Beachbody!!

Today I am blessed beyond words with Beachbody but also from my mentor!! This lady has taken me under her wing, helped me when I was in my darkest hour, and guided me. She has done so much for me and getting to spend time with her last week, made the cancun trip all worth it! She will forever be in my heart. Her and her husband are an amazing powerhouse team in Beachbody and have the BIGGEST HEARTS I have ever see in my life!

Thank you so much Nikki and Chris from the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful to have you 2 in our lives! Your guidance and generosity is out of this world!!

Health and Fitness Tip #23 - Slim Up Your Snack

Slim up your snack

It's hard to avoid that 3 p.m. stomach rumble, when nothing can stand between you and the office vending machine. And while it's fine to eat something to hold you over until dinner (in fact, I encourage it!), some choices will help you keep on your weight-loss track—while others can surely derail you. So at the vending machine, instead of choosing that ever-so-tempting pack of Twizzlers, try a 100-calorie cookie pack or a Nature Valley granola bar. Better yet, bring a snack from home, like Shakeology - it will give you energy, curb your cravings, aid you in weight loss, hold you over till dinner, and more. Or bring some sliced veggies and hummus to dip them in, or an Apple and PB! Stick to the healthier options to help you have energy, not spoil your dinner, and to keep you on your weight loss journey.

Recap of My Trip to Cancun

As I sit on my bed and reflect on the past 5 days, I get this overwhelming emotion of happiness. Why? Not because I am in paradise enjoying the sun and eating all the food, and drinking all the drinks I want for free. But because of how I got here and who I am with!

A year ago I was miserable, working full time at a job that I no longer has the passion for and a district that no longer supported me in my role. I woke up every day miserable and went to bed crying, thinking this was the rest of my life. Yes, I was working Beachbody part time but Quitting my full time job wasn't an option. However, Beachbody showed me I could do it, showed me that if I jumped, I could make it. So Rich said jump after our wedding. No I wasn't making a full time teaching salary, YET. But knew I Was on the right track and knew I could be there within the year. So together we jumped! I quit teaching, I gave up my benefits, I gave up my insurance, I gave up my pension, I gave up my "secure" paycheck, all for what? To be a coach?!?

Wrong!! I gained so much more from quitting!! I gained happiness, a family that accepts me for who I am, a family that builds me up, a family that supports me, a family that encourages me to dream so big that my dreams scare me, best friends that I would have never met if it weren't for BB, grew close to old friends because of Beachbody, and a job that I love, a job that I get to wake up to every day and help others get happy, healthy, and live longer!!

This week, I got to spend time with some amazing and incredible ladies and leaders. These ladies have such huge hearts, big dreams, and some amazing plans / ideas! I can't wait to see them continue to succeed with Beachbody and be right along side of them growing in this company!!

Thank you Beachbody for this amazing trip but thank you even more for allowing me to quit my full time job and meet some of the most incredible people that I know call my family!!

Health and Fitness Tip #22 - Slather Up!!

Slather up!

There's no denying it: Getting the fresh air from exercising outdoors is great! But along with it, you also get the harmful UV rays. To keep yourself shielded while still having fun in the sun, opt for a sweat-proof screen with SPF 30 or higher (look out for types that say "water-resistant" or "waterproof" on the bottle, terms regulated by the FDA), a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher, a lightweight hat, and sports shades. Also consider trading in your white tee and instead going for a shirt with built-in UV protection (a rating of 30 UVP is necessary to be awarded the Skin Cancer Foundation's "Seal of Recommendation"; a white T-shirt has a rating of 10). And remember, the rays are at their brightest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so try to plan a before-or post-work sweat-session.

Recap of week 3 and the 21 Day Fix Extreme

The 21 Day Fix Extreme ended yesterday for me. I can't believe that 3weeks are already over with this program.

Week 3 was MUCH easier than week 2 and was definitely way more easier than week 1. Looking back from week 1 to week 3, I can't believe how much stronger I got, how my endurance increased, and just how overall better I felt. Now don't get me wrong, I was still sore, but that is because I upped my weights. Week 1 I was using 3-5 pounds, week 2 5-8 pounds and week 3 I upped it to 8-10 pounds. Each week I continued to be sore, but in a good way. The meal planning became a routine after week 1 and actually became a staple to my nutrition of what I ate on competition plan days and what I ate on non-competition plan days. The only workout I continued to struggle with during the 3rd week was Pilates. All the other workouts I felt on pace and able to keep up with her.

Pilates, continued to be a challenge for me and I HATED it. I did it all 3 weeks, but to be honest I felt so uncoordinated that I don't know if I would ever do that workout again. Why? Because I didn't feel like I got a good workout in because I was too worried about the band and it moving and being tangled up in it.

This week I went back to doing all the original workouts that come with the base kit! I really like them all (except Pilates) and enjoyed pushing myself harder than last week.

Today I did The Fix Challenge that comes as the bonus DVD when you order through a Team Beachbody Coach, like myself. The challenge is 13 moves repeated 4 times each. But you start with move one do it 4 times and then repeat it but build on and add move 2. You continue to do this till you are doing all 13 moves! It is awesome! You work up a sweat and there is minimal jumping and not equipment needed. However, I do recommend you use a mat if you are on carpet or hard word floors, because you do a lot of forearm planks and I needed up with a rug burn!

I still stand by what I said the past 2 weeks, that, when it comes to these workouts, they are AWESOME and definitely for someone that is more advanced and has been working out for a while. You get stronger each week and see faster definition in your muscles than with 21 Day Fix, but that is because you are using weights for everything! There is  modifier but she still goes hard so I stick by what I said, and that I would not recommend this program for someone who is a beginner or has a serious injury.

MEAL PLANING - now this has seriously been my FAVORITE part of the program. The 21 Day Fix Extreme comes with 2 meal plans. One is the Extreme Meal Plan just like the regular Fix, BUT you no longer get sweets, waffles, treats, and of course your wine! The competition plan - is a carb depletion plan that is for someone that wants serious results, someone that is thinking about doing a Body Competition, someone needing to lose those last few pounds, OR someone, like me, getting ready for a trip.

I have continued this past week to do the Countdown to Competition plan. With this plan I am getting 6 reds (proteins), 3 greens (veggies) and 1 yellow (carb) a day. You do this for 2 days and  then you go to the Extreme Meal plan for 1 Day - like the fix but no treats.

I am not a meat eater but the competition plan ha showed me that eating a higher protein diet gives me more energy, better workouts, a happier tummy, and overall makes me feel good. I honestly thought I was going to hate it and have to quit after the first day or 2 because I hate meat, however, I am in love with it, have stuck to it and have officially finished the program.  I am learning a lot about my body. I thought I would miss the fruits and carbs, but I don't. I actually have learned to appreciate food more, and the tastes of the foods you miss. I love that the days I have fruits they feel like a cheat because I am getting a treat! I love that feeling and it definitely helps you not want to cheat and stick with the plan. Plus I keep saying its 2 days on and 1 day off. Just look it at like that any one can do it!!

Its interesting how in tune I have become with my body and it has me thinking about my nutrition plan come after the fix.

Here are pictures of what I eat on the competition plan and what I eat on the extreme plan. I continue to do the same thing on Competition Plan days and Extreme days.

Recap of Week 2 of the 21 Day Fix Extreme

Week 2 Recap of the 21 Day Fix Extreme

Today starts week 3 of the 21 Day Fix Extreme for me. I honestly can't believe that I am on week 3 and almost over with the Extreme. .

Week 2 was MUCH easier than week 1 was. I know that I said week 1 was tough but I promise week 2 was actually a lot easier.  The workouts got easier and the meal planning became a routine. I no longer notice with the workouts the short breaks and her going harder and faster no longer bothers me. I still struggle with some moves, but I have mastered most of them and have really enjoyed the new moves in this program.

As for Pilates, I am going to be honest it is a challenge and I HATE it. haha I usually don't use the word hate but this workout is a struggle for me. The red band that you have to use is tough and I get tangled, so I don't feel like I am getting that great of a workout in because I am too focused on the band and not the moves, or trying to untangle myself and not able to get the full benefit of each move.

This week I replaced Dirty 30 with the ABC Fix Extreme workout. It is an extra bonus DVD that comes with 2 workouts that you can use to replace Plyo and Dirty 30 with. I liked ABC - Abs, Butt, and Cardio - I think this week I will do Dirty 30 Extreme. The ABC was a good workout, but it focused more on ab moves and I didn't get a good sweat with it. However, the one great move in there that is killer is a 1 minute squat hold. Its crazy but feels amazing when you are done!! Also with the ABC extreme it is 15 moves in a 1 round and you repeat that round 2 times.

I still stand by what I said last week, when it comes to these workouts, they are AWESOME and definitely for someone that is more advanced and has been working out for a while. You get stronger each week and see faster definition in your muscles than with 21 Day Fix, but that is because you are using weights for everything! There is  modifier but she still goes hard so I stick by what I said last week and I would not recommend this program for someone who is a beginner or has a serious injury.

I honestly thought I was going to hate it and have to quit after the first day or 2 because I hate meat, however, I am in love with it, have stuck to it and am now on day 15. Honestly if you stay consistent with this program and don't cheat, you will see amazing results. This program is going to have you drop a ton of weight like the regular fix, but this program will allow you to slim down and tone up like you have never before. Stay Consistent. Remember its not perfection that you are looking for, its Determination and willpower refusing to give up.

Transformation Tuesday - Jess D

Its Tranformation Tuesday and I have some today that I am going to feature, that is near and dear to my heart! I met this girl in College, at Clarion, and if it weren't for the Sorority we pledged together, I would have never met her. YES I am a sorority girl!! :P She was a business major and a year a head of me, I was an Elementary Education Major, so we had NO classes together. However, Spring of 2003 changed my life forever and this girl came into it!!! She is amazing and after graduation we slowly drifted apart and didn't talk often or much over the years. However, thank goodness for FB to keep you somewhat close or in touch, RIGHT?!?

September of 2014 she reached out to me and asked for help. She was given the 21 Day Fix and wanted to start Drinking Shakeology. I helped her order it, got her into a Fix Group and she hasn't looked back since!! December of 2014 she became a coach and ranked to emerald in less than 30 Days. She is committed and amazing!!! And her results that she has made are unbelievable.

Coach Jess D has hit a HUGE milestone in her business lately!! She hit the 50 pound mark!! YES you read that right from September to February she has lost 50+ pounds and doesn't plan on stropping till she reaches her goal weight. I super proud of her and am so glad that she is on this mission with me!! She is one amazing lady and one awesome coach that knows how to incorporate the 21 Day Fix into a lifestyle and still have fun and enjoy going out on the weekends!!!

Also ANOTHER huge milestone that she hit just the other week was SKINNY Jeans. We all love and hate them at the same time! Well she bought her first pair in a long time and loves. Not to mention she LOOKS amazing in them!! Look how skinny her legs are!!

Here she is also working out with the 21 Day Fix. The combination of the Fix meal plan, shakeology and the workouts TRULY do work!! You just have to be ready and willing to make that 21 day commitment!!

Jess Continues to eat clean, workout, and live a healthy lifestyle. However, we are all not perfect and when she does fall off the track, she will jump right back on and do a 3 day refresh to help kick start her butt back into gear!! Here are some of her amazing results from her last 3 Day Refresh. She lost 7 pounds and a total of 4.5 inches!!! All in 3 days!!

Health and Fitness Tip # 19 - Shake Your Way Slim

Shake your way slim

Sick of that elliptical or bike or running outside? That means it's time to mix up your routine! My favorite way: Break a sweat by moving and shaking. How? 2 ways 1. Simply make a playlist with your favorite "Dance Party" tunes ("Girls Just Want to Have Fun"? "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)"?), then turn up the volume, and start breaking it down. Or 2. Get Hip Hop Abs or Rockin' Body and break a sweat with Shaun T. These 2 programs will have you busting a move while laughing at yourself, and trust me you will be a sweaty, sore mess by the end of the workout! And for even more fun, invite some gal pals over and get grooving (and laughing). The best part is that you'll each burn about 200 to 600 calories per hour. Now that's something to shimmy about!

Transformation Tuesday - My own 21 Day Fix Results

Here are my 21 Day Fix Results. You may be looking at them and saying I didn't lose anything or what is the difference. And honestly I felt that way too! I asked my hubby what is the difference. And this is the conclusion he told me......

I eat so clean - due to having celiacs and not wanting to get sick or contaminated, that the fix diet was a normal every day occurrence. I workout everyday so that was nothing new, BUT I added in weights that defined muscles I have not had defined before and it cut me up more in my stomach and my arms.

The more I think about it, I agree. I went straight from Insanity Max 30 where I lost six pounds into the 21 Day Fix. My body was already in shape and my meal plan was in tack. I did dial it down more with the 21 Day Fix and I did the workouts exactly as she had them. My goal wasn't to lose weight, just the 1 or 2 pounds that needed to come off. My goal was to get more cut up and defined, and honestly do to the 21 day fix in its entirety.

I started to get cut, but am now taking it to the next level with the 21 Day Fix Extreme and hoping that with the Countdown to Competition Plan I will see the cut up results I am looking for.

Here are my Measurements from Day 1 and Day 21

Day 1
Chest - 30.5
Arm - 10
Thigh - 19.5
Calf - 13
Waist - 25.5
Hips - 28.75
Butt - 34.75
Weight - 118.5

Day 21
Chest - 30
Arm - 10
Thigh - 19.5
Calf - 12.5
Waist - 25
Hips - 28.25
Butt - 35
Weight - 116

Total inches lost 1.5 and total pounds lost 2.5 - Not a lot but remember I am someone who is fit, in shape, and eats clean 95% of the time due to celiac's disease.

Conclusion - This program works! Whether you are someone that wants to lose weight, gain weight, just dial in your nutrition and workout this program is for you. The 21 Day Fix works for everyone and their goals. Remember mine wasn't to lose weight, but to cut up and it helped me do that. If your goal is to lose weight it will help you do that, if you goal is to gain weight it will help you do that, and if you goal is to maintain weight and dial in your nutrition, the 21 Day Fix will help you do that.

This program is amazing and so many people have changed their life due to it. Are you ready to Change yours?

NEW RECIPE - Paleo Apple Crisp

I love apples and especially apple crisp. This recipe is amazing and hubby approved!! I also love adding vanilla coconut ice cream on top for a desert so does my husband!! This recipe is amazing and must try!!! Especially when you are having guest or other wise you have a ton left over!!

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:
5 pounds McIntosh or any apple you prefer
Grated zest of 1 orange
Grated zest of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the topping:
¾ c almond flour
¾ c coconut flour
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
¾ c organic coconut flakes
1/2 pound cold pasture-raised butter, diced

Directions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Butter a 9 by 14 by 2-inch oval baking dish.  Peel, core, and cut the apples into large wedges. Combine the apples with the zests, juices, and spices. Pour into the dish.

To make the topping, combine the flour, coconut sugar, salt, coconut flakes, mix thoroughly. Add in the cold pasture-raised butter in the bowl with the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter, mash and cut the butter into the dry ingredients for several minutes, until you have pieces the size of peas. Scatter the topping evenly over the apples.

Optional healthy/tasty addition:  Add some pecan pieces mixed into the topping.
Place the crisp on a sheet pan and bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is brown and the apples are bubbly. Serve warm.  Enjoy with a side of Coconut Ice Cream for a decadent yet healthy dessert.

Health and Fitness Tip #16 - Swaping your shoes

Swap out your shoes

While we've all heard that running shoes break down after logging lots of miles (about 300 to 350), you may still be holding on to your fave pair. (They fit just right! They're so cushy!) Not a good idea. "Glue has a tendency to break down under ultraviolet light, as do the other materials that make up the shoe," says Andrew Kastor. So even if your sneaks have only 150 miles on them or you have worn them 3 months to do a fitness program like P90X or T25, recycle them (try oneworldrunning.com or recycledrunners.com), because chances are they've already started deteriorating. And as a rule of thumb, always keep tabs on how many miles / consistent days you have worn them to do an intense exercise program —tedious, but hey, you'll be proud of how far you've gone. If you feel pain in your knees or hips stop and think about when the last time you got new shoes. Your body will tell you when its time. Don't ignore it because you could end up seriously injuring yourself if you do.

Health and Fitness Tip #14

Fun up your food

It's easy to get in a rut when it comes to eating clean and changing your lifestyle, even if you're loading up on flavorful fruits and veggies. So what's the solution? SPICES!!!

Have plenty of spices, fresh herbs, lemons, limes and Cholula sauces at your cooking beck and call. It's amazing what a little dash of spice, sprinkle of herbs, pinch of lemon zest, or squirt of lime juice can do to liven up a dish, let alone your new lifestyle change. The best part: They contain almost no calories, and are FREE foods on the 21 Day Fix and Fix Extreme!! Experiment with your dinner, tonight!

Testimonial Tuesday - 3 Day Refresh

I had a challenger just finish up the 3 Day Refresh and she lost 8 POUNDS!!! I couldn't believe it! In just 3 days she lost 8 pounds. She couldn't either!! This is what she said......

"I actually had to weigh myself 3 times this morning because I couldn't believe what the scale said! I lost 8 pounds and 2 1/2 inches on my waist. And I feel fabulous!"

This challenger has been doing the 21 day fix and drinking shakeology daily since December. Keep in mind that is only 2 1/2 months. She also sent me this......

"Thank you! I couldn't believe it! I looked back and from the beg. of December I've lost 24 pounds and 9 1/2 inches from my waist! It's crazy! And I am so happy about it!"

She has lost 24 pounds OVER a 2 1/2 month span and one of those moths was CHRISTMAS!!! And this has all happened because she CHOOSE to finally take a stand with her health and get fit and happy.

It's amazing what eating clean, portioning your food, workout 30 minutes a day, and a determination can do in just under 3 months.

No I don't have pictures to show, but just these words alone are why I do what I do!!!

Our First Night in the our New Place

On Friday, my husband and I, officially moved out of my parents house and into our own townhouse (rented, of course) with bare minimal furniture! And when I say bare minimal, I mean it. No lie! We have 2 blow up matters in the bed room, and a table in our dinning room! Nothing else. And the table in the dinning room didn't get in here till Sunday night! Where is the rest? Still in state college, until we can make trips and get things out of there.

So Friday night was our first night here. We ate dinner on the floor and we slept on Air Mattresses or at least Rich slept on an air mattress. I on the other hand went to bed high up off the ground and on a firm solid bed. Saturday morning I woke up to being on the floor and being very sore, and no I didn't fall off the bed!

What happened?!? Just a hole in the bed that's all!! Haha Not how we planned on starting this new chapter of our lives. But in the famous words of my mother, we are making memories.

Has this ever happened to you? What was your first experience like finally moving in with your husband or significant other?

Health and Fitness Tip #13 - Be weekend warrior

Be a weekend warrior

You've been following your new clean eating plan to the letter, but enter: the weekend. To deal with three nights of eating temptations (think: birthdays, weddings, dinner parties, holidays), up your activity level for the week and on the weekend. For instance, try taking an extra 15-minute walk around your office each day, pushing harder, doing extra 10 minute abs. Then, go on and indulge a tiny bit, guilt free. Another party trick? Enjoy a serving of shakeology or a piece of fruit before a celebration, which can help you eat fewer munchies at the event.

It's Offical!!! We are Moving!

Well the time has come!!! We are officially moving out of my parents house and into our own townhome. This was a goal of mine for this year. We are renting and we are moving closer to work for my husband.

Yes we got married and moved in with my parents. NOT at all ideal. But at the time with the wedding and reception and him starting his new job, we had no other choice. So now we do have the choice and I have a lot of mixed emotions about it. Good mixed emotions but still its a stressful time, when moving into a new place and taking on new finances.

1. Excited!!! I am super excited to finally get out of my parents house and have my OWN kitchen again and not have to worry about being GLUTENED from them and al their crumbs.

2. Scared! Say what?!? I have been with Rich (my husband) for almost 5 years and this will be the first time we live together alone!!! We have always had a roommate or for the past 7 months my parents. We have always had a buffer and now no one!

3. Overwhelmed - I think everyone feels this way when they are moving. All our furniture is in State College right now and we will be living out of suit cases and on an air mattress till we have the time to go up and get people to help us load and unload all our furniture. Plus all the packing from 2 different houses is overwhelming.

4. Terrified - Yes, you read that right. I am terrified that we aren't going to make it financially. I am taking off with my business but I am no where near where I want to be, to be able to contribute to more bills, and my husband took a paycut a year ago and we are now starting to feel the affects.

However, we are doing this, we are moving. Why? Because we are 39 and 31 years old. Living with my parents isn't the answer and we need to get on with our lives. We haven't had any ALONE time or Oh we are MARRIED time. So as all these emotions flood me, I am looking forward to the new chapter in our lives and excited to see what happens and we God leads us in our journey.
